"Mark, listening to the cd first, was an easy and entertaining way to get “started’ on my recovery.  It requires much less effort to listen than to read.  At the very beginning of my sobriety I was lazy and didn’t want to do shit!  Reading, while not impossible was not something my foggy mind had any desire to do.  After later receiving the book, I just looked at the book as some kind of material representation of having accomplished the very important “first step” on my road to re-inventing myself.  I just liked having it sit on my desk.  I was proud of it…and it was signed by you, which at the time and for whatever reason I thought was kind of cool. (Okay, I still think it’s kind of cool)  I’m #18.  Don’t know what that means but it’s another alias I can gloss myself with.  Kyle Busch drives #18 and although he is one goofy looking motherfucker…he can drive the wheels off a racecar.

Anyway...I had the book at least a week before I decided to read anything other than the dedication and the introduction.  Now, after reading the book…I am amazed at how different the information goes into my mind when I read the words versus listening to the words as you read the audio book. Or, the famous quote “A picture is worth a thousand words.”  While that quote may be true, there are few if any beautiful pictures that could actually be replaced by hanging up “a thousand words” on the wall…and vice versa.

Ultimately what I am saying is that even though the audio-book and the book itself contain all the same stuff,  I think the one-two punch of the audio-book then the book itself (and actually reading it) provides the best opportunity for success for people that are in the early stages of sobriety."
